"Small-batch" appears on many product pages, but it is rarely explained. At Sukham, it describes how
we work, and it shapes almost every decision we make.
I formulate every product myself. That means each product begins with a person who has studied
formulation for more than fourteen years, and who is responsible for what goes into it. We do not
produce large runs in one go. We make in limited quantities, so the person who formulated a product
can see how it is made, check it, and make changes if something is not right.
Small-batch also means we accept variation. Natural ingredients can differ slightly from one harvest
or supply to the next. A product made in June may look or smell a little different from one made in
September. We would rather tell you that openly than hide it behind a uniform appearance that would
require adding things we do not want to add.
It also shapes packing and dispatch. We check orders in small groups, and we keep a close eye on
stock so that we do not promise what we cannot deliver. Customers often ask why a product is
sometimes temporarily unavailable. The answer is usually that we are making the next batch with
care.
Small-batch is not a marketing shortcut. It is a way of working that keeps the maker close to the
product and the customer close to the maker. For a small team in Pondicherry, it is the only way we
know how to build something we can stand behind.
